But viral marketing is not restricted to companies, even
bands and celebrities want to go viral. Everyone wants to go viral. They want
to get their product out there to as many people as they can & as quickly
as possible. This is the essence behind viral making.
Getting yourself out there, creating as much awareness as
you can, as quickly as you can is your objective. So how do you do it? The
thing that you need to think about is implementing a Viral marketing campaign
is something that is going to differentiate you. You cannot do what you are
currently doing and expect your business to suddenly explode. Sadly it just
does not happen like this and you need to be thinking outside of the box and
you need to figure out what is going to trigger people to share your business.
This is how something goes viral. People see it, they like it, they share it. The
concept is very simple, but the trick is finding that something that is going
to set you apart from your competition.
To give you an example of something that can go Viral is if
you consider a music website as an example; they could run a song contest. Members
of this site could upload their song and to be entered for this contest. The
owners of this site could then make the voting of the best song open to the
public. What this would allow, is that those who have entered the contest would
then be forced to inform all their friends and family to vote for their song.
As you can imagine, if you have several thousands of people actively promoting
your business for you as a by product of running this contest imagine the
impact that could have from a business point of view?
Within a couple of weeks of this contest going live such a
business could be getting thousands of extra visitors per month. Some of the
entrants would be posting on twitter, Facebook & also uploading the song onto
YouTube and other forms of search engine optimisation in Manchester. Of course, people would have to come to the website in order to place
their vote.
Whatever your business is, you need to think of something
very unique, because a contest is not going to be suitable for all business
models. Things that you could do could include discounts that could be posted
on Facebook for all your fans to share and they will share this with their
friends. And this could be expanded upon so that such a discount is restricted
to the first one thousand people only.
Restricting a offer that is good, this will generate a huge
frenzy as people will hopefully want to have your product. Or to get your brand
noticed you could say that an offer only applies if say two hundred people take
part which is something that the website Groupon did to help them grow very quickly. They said
to their audience that they have a lot of amazing deals, but they are only
valid if they get a certain number of Facebook likes.
This in essence gets people working for you. So you have got
to figure out a way for your business in a manner where your clients are doing
all the hard work. If you can figure this out then that is the first step in
going Viral. You need to give your clients a reason for them to push your
product & also your brand. Do this and your world will be your oyster.
